Why Mewing Stops Working
Mewing carries one honest limitation: it is conscious work. The tongue holds the correct position only while you are thinking about it, and nobody thinks about it all day.
Why mewing stops working
The practice is not wrong. Tongue resting on the palate, lips together, breathing through the nose: that is the position the body is meant to hold. The plateau comes because attention runs out. As soon as work or conversation takes over, the tongue drops back into the pattern it knows, and the unconscious hours outweigh the practised minutes.
What the ceiling actually is
The ceiling is the gap between what you can hold deliberately and what the body does on its own. Moving past it means giving the practice something physical to engage with rather than more willpower. That is what the Functional Activator is for: a daytime tongue posture trainer, square so the tongue has room to reach the palate, with no breathing holes, so nasal breathing happens straight away. You do the work; the device makes that work concrete.
The position was never the difficult part. Keeping it without thinking about it is, and that part can be trained.
